A practical guide to choosing and using it

Plan a tidier cabinet power layout

A rack power strip is most useful when it is planned alongside the equipment layout. Place the PDU where each compatible lead can reach its outlet without being stretched across ventilation openings. Group leads by device, label both ends and keep the switch accessible. This makes a later equipment change easier to trace and reduces the need to disturb unrelated connections.

Match the whole connection path

Start with the supply or UPS, then check the PDU input plug, output outlets and equipment leads in that order. An IEC outlet name describes a connector shape; it does not confirm that a particular UPS socket, cable or appliance is suitable. For each connection, check the plug format and electrical rating as well as the available physical space.

Understand the shared capacity

The PDU rating applies to the complete strip. Eight outlets provide connection positions, but they do not create eight separate power budgets. Add the requirements of all connected equipment and allow for how the equipment behaves during startup. The supply circuit, UPS and connecting leads may impose a lower limit than the strip itself, so plan around the complete installation.

Make maintenance easier

Choose the horizontal or vertical bracket position before connecting equipment. Allow enough room to grip each plug and to route cables without tight bends at the outlets. Where a network or server shutdown would interrupt work, follow the equipment shutdown procedure before using the common switch. Treat the switch as a shared power control for everything attached to the PDU.

Frequently asked questions

What equipment is this PDU intended for?
It suits cabinet equipment connected through correctly rated IEC leads with C14 plugs at the PDU end. Typical installations may include network or server equipment, but the individual device connection and load must still be checked. The product is useful when several compatible connections need to be organised in a rack rather than spread across separate power strips.
What plugs fit the eight output sockets?
The output sockets are IEC C13 and accept the corresponding C14 plugs on suitable equipment leads. Standard Indian round-pin appliance plugs do not fit these outlets directly. Check the connector at each end of the required lead: the end entering the PDU and the end entering your equipment may be different, even when both belong to the IEC family.
Is the 2500 W rating available at every socket?
No. It is the maximum total power rating at the stated rated voltage, alongside the 10 A current limit. Do not multiply that figure by eight outlets. Actual permitted loading also depends on the source, local supply conditions and connected cables. Use the ratings on the supplied unit and the installation requirements when deciding how much equipment to connect.
Can I connect it to a UPS?
It can form part of a compatible UPS installation when the PDU input connection and electrical rating match the UPS output. The C13 outlet specification alone does not establish that input compatibility. Check the UPS manual, available output capacity and required input plug before ordering; use appropriate equipment leads and keep the complete connected load within the UPS limits.
Does it provide battery backup or automatic voltage conversion?
It distributes the electricity supplied to it. It does not generate backup power or convert the supply voltage for equipment designed for another voltage. If continuity during a power cut is required, that function must come from a suitable UPS or other planned source. The equipment still needs to be compatible with the voltage and supply conditions it receives.
How does the double-pole master switch work?
The master switch opens both live and neutral together and controls the strip as a whole. It is not an individual on/off control for each outlet. Before switching off a rack containing computers or storage, shut down the connected devices properly. A single switch action can interrupt every device attached to the strip, so keep the control clearly identified.
Can the PDU be installed vertically as well as horizontally?
The adjustable brackets support horizontal or vertical positioning in a compatible 19-inch cabinet. Select a position that leaves room for the plug bodies, cable bends and nearby equipment. Confirm the available mounting points and cabinet clearance before installation. A nominal rack width is only part of the fit check; access and cable routing matter as well.
How much reach does the attached cable provide?
The attached power cord is 1.8 m. Measure the actual route from the planned PDU location to the supply connection, including bends and any managed cable path, rather than measuring only the straight-line distance. Leave comfortable slack at both ends. If the source cannot be reached appropriately, choose a different installation layout or a suitable product for that route.
Can I use adapters to connect any appliance?
Do not choose adapters solely because they make two connectors fit. The appliance, lead, adapter, PDU and supply must all be electrically compatible and correctly rated. This product is intended for planned IEC equipment connections. For appliances with ordinary domestic plugs, a power-distribution product designed for those plugs is generally the more straightforward choice.
What should I check before purchasing for an existing rack?
Check the equipment lead connectors, the available supply or UPS output, total load, mounting space and the route needed for the 1.8 m cord. Also allow access to the common switch and to every plug. If replacing another PDU, compare its input and output connections individually instead of assuming two rack strips are interchangeable because they look similar.
