Compatibility and installation

Install the card in a compatible desktop PCIe slot. An NVMe/AHCI M-Key SSD communicates through the PCIe slot. A SATA/NGFF B-Key SSD requires a separate 7-pin SATA data cable from the card to an available motherboard SATA port; the PCIe slot alone does not carry that drive's SATA data. Operating-system and motherboard support are also required.

Important before buying

NVMe and SATA M.2 drives use different interfaces and are not interchangeable between the two positions. This is not a dual-NVMe card. Booting from an installed drive depends on motherboard firmware support, and actual speed is limited by the SSD, PCIe generation, lane allocation and SATA controller. It is an internal desktop adapter, not a USB enclosure, and it does not convert an M.2 SSD into an external drive. SSDs are not included.
