Will it work with your setup?

  • Works with standard RJ45 Ethernet ports on routers, switches, computers, network printers, consoles and NAS devices.
  • A laptop without Ethernet needs a suitable Ethernet adapter. Match the adapter speed to the network performance you want.
  • A 1Gbps port still operates at up to 1Gbps; fitting a Cat 7 cable does not upgrade the device port.

Setup and everyday use

  1. Measure the route along the furniture or room edge and allow slack at both ends of the 10m cable.
  2. Connect one RJ45 plug to the router or switch and the other to your computer, console or network device until each clip seats securely.
  3. Check the Ethernet link indicators or the device network settings. The connection normally negotiates its speed automatically.
  4. To unplug, press the retaining clip and hold the connector body. Avoid sharp bends, crushing the cable under furniture or pulling on the wire.
  5. Check the negotiated Ethernet link speed in the connected device settings and try the normal online or file-transfer task. Keep both RJ45 plugs accessible for troubleshooting, and support the cable route so its weight does not pull against the retaining clips.

Will it work with a normal Gigabit router?
Yes, the RJ45 plugs can connect to standard Ethernet ports on compatible routers, switches and devices. A Gigabit router port will negotiate a link up to its own 1Gbps capability even though the cable supports a higher maximum rate. You do not need to replace a working router simply to use the cable. Check the port speed when planning an upgrade to a faster local network.
What do I need to reach a 10Gbps connection?
Both devices at the ends of the link need compatible 10Gbps Ethernet ports, along with any switch in the route. A 1Gbps or 2.5Gbps port remains limited to its own capability. For file transfers, computer storage, the destination device and software can also affect the speed you see. The cable provides the wired path and does not upgrade the network hardware connected to it.
Does Cat 7 make my internet connection faster?
It does not increase the speed included in your internet plan or remove limits imposed by the router and connected device. It can provide a wired alternative to a wireless link when that suits the setup. Internet results still depend on the service connection and the wider network. Assess local Ethernet link speed and internet download speed separately because they describe different parts of the connection.
Can I use it for a console or smart television?
Yes, when the console or television has an Ethernet RJ45 socket. Connect the other end to a suitable router or network switch and select the wired network option if the device requires it. The device Ethernet port may run below the cable maximum, which is normal. Streaming and online gaming performance also depend on your service connection, router configuration and the remote service.
How do I connect a laptop that has no Ethernet socket?
Use a suitable Ethernet adapter or dock that is compatible with the laptop USB or USB-C port. Connect this cable between the adapter Ethernet socket and the router or switch. Match the adapter speed to the network performance you want; a Gigabit adapter will not provide a 10Gbps link. The adapter may also have its own driver or operating-system requirements to check before use.
What does the shielding do?
The cable uses shielded twisted pairs to help protect the network signal from interference. That construction is useful when planning a dependable wired route, but it does not replace careful installation. Avoid crushing the cable, making sharp bends or putting tension on the plugs. How should I plan a 10m cable route?
Measure along the path the cable will follow, including corners, furniture and the distance up to each network port. Leave some slack for plugging in and moving equipment slightly. Why is my link showing 100Mbps or 1Gbps instead of 10Gbps?
The link normally negotiates a speed supported by the connected ports, so first check the specifications of the router, switch and device adapter. A slower port can explain the result. If the negotiated speed is below what both ends support, reseat the plugs and test another suitable port. Remove intermediate couplers where possible and check for a damaged connector or a sharply bent cable.
Can I plug it into a telephone or fibre socket?
No. This model has RJ45 Ethernet connectors and is intended for compatible network ports. A telephone RJ11 socket and a fibre connection use different connectors and signalling. Use the Ethernet LAN port on a suitable router or switch rather than assuming every socket on the equipment has the same purpose. Check the port labels before connecting, particularly on equipment with separate WAN, LAN and telephone connections.
