Will it work with your setup?

  • Works with standard RJ45 Ethernet ports on routers, modems with LAN ports, switches, PCs, laptops, consoles, smart TVs, printers and NAS devices.
  • A laptop without an Ethernet port needs a USB or USB-C Ethernet adapter; the adapter speed sets the maximum link speed.
  • The connection runs at the speed both ports support. A 100Mbps port stays at 100Mbps even with a Cat 6 cable.

Setup and everyday use

  1. Check the route from the router or switch to your device and make sure 2m reaches with a little slack at both ends.
  2. Plug one RJ45 connector into a LAN port on the router or switch until the clip clicks into place.
  3. Plug the other end into the Ethernet port of your computer, console, TV or other device.
  4. Check the link lights on the port or the network settings on the device; the speed negotiates automatically.
  5. To unplug, press the clip and pull on the connector body, not the cable. Avoid sharp bends and crushing the cable under furniture.

Before you buy

  • This is an RJ45 Ethernet patch cable, not a telephone (RJ11) lead or a fibre cable.
  • The cable does not increase your internet plan speed; it replaces a wireless hop with a wired one.
  • U/UTP means the pairs are unshielded, which is normal for home and office patch cables. For electrically noisy areas, a shielded Cat 6A or Cat 7 cable may suit better.

Frequently asked questions

Will it work with my broadband router?
Yes, if the router has RJ45 LAN ports, which almost all home and office routers do. Plug one end into a LAN port and the other into your device. The link negotiates the fastest speed both ports support.
Is Cat 6 fast enough for Gigabit internet?
Yes. Cat 6 is designed for Gigabit Ethernet, so it will not be the bottleneck on a typical home or office connection. Your internet plan, router and device still decide the final speed you see.
Why does my device show 100Mbps instead of 1Gbps?
Usually one of the ports only supports 100Mbps, or a plug is not fully seated. Check the router and device specifications, reseat both plugs and try another LAN port. A damaged or sharply bent cable can also force a slower link.
Can I connect a laptop that has no Ethernet port?
Yes, with a USB or USB-C Ethernet adapter or a dock that has an RJ45 port. Connect this cable between the adapter and the router. Choose a Gigabit adapter if you want Gigabit speeds.
Is 2m long enough?
For a device on the same desk or TV unit as the router, usually yes. Measure along the actual route, including any corners and the height to each port. If the device is in another part of the room, choose a longer cable instead of stretching this one.
Can I use it between a switch and a patch panel?
Yes. Short Cat 6 patch cables are commonly used to link switches, routers and patch panels in small racks and wall cabinets, and the blue colour makes the link easy to trace later.
