NW167 Network and Telephone Cable Tester
Overview
UGREEN 10950 / NW167 is a two-part continuity tester for terminated network and telephone cables. A main unit sequences LEDs while the detachable remote receives the far end, helping a technician compare conductor order and identify open, short or crossed wiring. The verified interface specification covers RJ45 8P8C and RJ12/RJ11-family 6P6C, 6P4C and 6P2C cables. It is a wiring checker, not a network-speed, PoE-load or cable-certification instrument.

A continuity tester—not a network certifier
UGREEN 10950 compares conductor continuity and order on supported RJ45 and telephone cables. It does not measure Ethernet throughput, cable category compliance, PoE load, distance to a fault or network traffic. The verified port specification does not support BNC/coax testing, so that capability must not be assumed.

Key features
- Detachable main and remote sections for checking both ends of an installed cable run.
- RJ45 8P8C ports for shielded or unshielded Ethernet patch and installed cables.
- RJ12/RJ11-family support for 6P6C, 6P4C and 6P2C telephone wiring.
- Sequential LED indicators provide a visible conductor-order comparison.
- Fast and slow scan positions are documented in the model specification.
- Gold-plated contacts in a compact ABS/PC housing; powered by a replaceable 9 V battery.

Use scenarios
Verify conductor continuity through a wall or ceiling run by separating the remote unit.
Compare telephone-cable pin order after fitting RJ11 or RJ12 plugs.
Isolate a suspected open, short or crossed conductor during basic troubleshooting.
Carry out a quick field check before using a cable; use a certifier when standards compliance must be documented.

Setup and usability guidance
Disconnect the cable from switches, routers, telephony equipment, PoE injectors and all live circuits.
Install a sound 9 V battery with correct polarity; a battery is required; confirm retail-package inclusion separately.
For a patch lead, connect one end to the matching main-unit socket and the other to the remote socket.
For an installed run, detach the remote, connect it at the far outlet and connect the main unit at the near end.
Select slow or fast mode, watch the LED order on both parts and compare it with the expected pinout before reconnecting equipment.

Compatible devices and systems
Verified for terminated RJ45 8P8C network cables and RJ12/RJ11-family telephone cables using 6P6C, 6P4C or 6P2C wiring.
It can check conductor continuity regardless of Ethernet category when the connector fits, but it does not certify Cat5e/Cat6/Cat7/Cat8 performance.
BNC/coax capability is not verified by the detailed port and package specifications; no BNC socket or adapter is specified.

Real-world performance and planning
The result is a visual wiring pattern. Matching sequential LEDs indicate continuity and expected order, while missing, repeated or out-of-order indications can point to an open, short or crossed conductor. Interpretation still depends on the chosen wiring scheme; this tester does not decide whether a cable meets Cat6, Cat6A or other certification limits.
For a trustworthy check, disconnect the cable from all active equipment, verify the 9V battery, test both plugs and run the sequence more than once. When a channel must be formally certified for bandwidth, insertion loss, return loss or standards compliance, use a calibrated cable certifier after basic continuity troubleshooting.
What this product does
- Shows whether corresponding conductors continue from one plug to the other.
- Helps reveal basic open, short and crossed/misordered wiring patterns from the LED sequence.
- Allows far-end checking with a removable passive remote.
- Provides a portable first-line check for network and telephone cabling.

What this product does not do
- It does not measure Ethernet throughput, packet loss, cable length or signal-to-noise margin.
- It does not certify a cable to a TIA/ISO category standard.
- It does not test a live Ethernet connection, PoE delivery or telephone line voltage safely.
- BNC/coax testing is not verified by the detailed interface list or standard package contents.
- It does not identify which wall cable is which unless the operator moves the remote or uses a separate toner.
What to do
- Isolate both cable ends from powered equipment before every test.
- Record the expected straight-through or crossover pin order and compare every LED, not only the first and last.
- Replace the battery if LEDs are dim, erratic or fail to sequence.
- Label a failed cable immediately so it is not returned to service by mistake.
What not to do
- Do not connect the tester to an energized telephone line, PoE port or any mains-related wiring.
- Do not infer bandwidth category from a continuity pass.
- Do not claim coax compatibility unless the exact supplied bundle visibly includes the required BNC interface/adapter and its instructions confirm use.
- Do not mix RJ45 and RJ12 sockets or force a plug that does not fit.
Check before buying
Use only disconnected, de-energised RJ45 8P8C or supported 6-position telephone wiring.
A replaceable 9V rectangular battery is required; confirm retail-package inclusion separately.
Do not rely on this unit for PoE, live-line, cable-length or performance certification.
Compare the LED order with the required T568A/T568B or telephone pinout—not only whether lights appear.
Warnings and limitations
- The verified interface list shows RJ45 and RJ12/RJ11-family sockets only. BNC capability is unverified; choose a dedicated coax tester when BNC testing is required.
- Battery inclusion varies by retail package. Plan to supply a compatible 9V battery unless the sealed package confirms one.
- Always test de-energized cabling. This is not protective equipment and is not rated for live mains, active PoE or telephone ringing voltage.
- A continuity pass proves conductor mapping only; it does not prove the run will sustain a claimed network speed.

Package contents
- 1 × UGREEN NW167 cable tester assembly, comprising the main unit and detachable remote
- Confirm the retail box for 9V battery inclusion; a battery is required for operation.
- No BNC adapter, patch lead, carrying case or certification report is verified as included.
