What it does well.

Key features

02 · At a glance

5 × Gigabit RJ45. Every RJ45 port has a link-rate ceiling of 1Gbps. A device linked at 100Mbps or 10Mbps remains limited to that negotiated rate.

10Gbps switching capacity. For a Gigabit link, both endpoint network interfaces and the intermediate router or switch must support 1000BASE-T.

Unmanaged and fanless. Ethernet standards: IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3ab and 802.3x.

No PoE. The switch is a stand-alone Ethernet device and does not install an operating-system driver.

Every interface and indicator explained

03 · Connector clarity

5 × RJ45 ports. Each port auto-negotiates 10/100/1000Mbps and can be used for the uplink or a local device; there is no dedicated WAN port.

DC power input. The switch requires its external 5V supply. Ethernet cables do not power this non-PoE model.

Power LED. Shows that the switch is receiving power; it does not confirm internet service.

5 × Link/Act LEDs. One indicator per RJ45 port shows a negotiated link and flashes with activity; the indicator is not a bandwidth meter.

Fanless aluminium enclosure. Passive cooling keeps operation quiet. Leave space around the housing so heat can dissipate.

Link-rate ceilings and real throughput

04 · Performance planning

Every RJ45 port has a link-rate ceiling of 1Gbps. A device linked at 100Mbps or 10Mbps remains limited to that negotiated rate.

The specified 10Gbps switching capacity represents five full-duplex Gigabit links counted in both directions; it does not mean a single port can transmit at 10Gbps.

Store-and-forward switching checks each received frame before forwarding it. The listed Gigabit forwarding rate is up to 1,488,000 packets per second per port under the manufacturer's test conditions.

All internet traffic still shares the speed of the router, modem, ISP plan and uplink. Adding a switch creates more wired ports; it does not multiply broadband bandwidth.

The 2K MAC-address table records connected network endpoints. It is not a user-managed address book and provides no routing or firewall function.

What the host, cable or radio route must support

05 · Complete path

For a Gigabit link, both endpoint network interfaces and the intermediate router or switch must support 1000BASE-T.

Use intact Cat5e-or-better Ethernet cables for Gigabit. Damaged plugs, split pairs, two-pair telephone-style wiring or poorly terminated wall runs commonly negotiate only 100Mbps.

Connect one port to a router LAN port or upstream switch, then connect computers, TVs, consoles, access points or other Ethernet clients to the remaining ports.

A loop created by connecting two switch ports back into the same unmanaged network can cause a broadcast storm. Use a single uplink unless the network is deliberately designed otherwise.

The switch does not issue IP addresses. A router or other DHCP server normally provides addressing and internet access.

Standards, negotiation and operating roles

06 · Network behaviour

Ethernet standards: IEEE 802.3, 802.3u, 802.3ab and 802.3x.

Auto MDI/MDIX allows ordinary straight-through Ethernet cables; a special crossover cable is not normally required.

Full- and half-duplex negotiation depends on the connected device, although modern Gigabit links operate full duplex.

India material lists support for frames up to 9K. Every device across a jumbo-frame path must use compatible settings; the feature does not accelerate ordinary internet traffic by itself.

This is an unmanaged Layer-2 switch. There is no administration page, app, configurable VLAN, traffic shaping, link aggregation or router mode.

Ceiling, not a promise

A port, radio or USB label is a signalling ceiling. Real performance depends on the complete path, protocol overhead, local conditions and the devices at both ends.

Compatible devices and systems

07 · Device fit

Routers and broadband gateways. Connect a LAN port from the router to any switch port. Do not connect it to a modem that requires a router unless the network design already provides routing.

Desktop PCs, laptops and docks. Works with standard 10/100/1000 Ethernet interfaces; negotiated speed follows the slowest active part of the link.

Smart TVs, game consoles and streaming boxes. Suitable for devices with standard RJ45 Ethernet when a stable wired link is preferred.

NAS, printers and IP devices. Suitable for ordinary Ethernet data, but the switch does not provide PoE power to cameras, access points or phones.

Mixed-speed networks. 10Mbps, 100Mbps and 1Gbps devices can coexist; each port negotiates independently.

Use scenarios

08 · Practical value

Home entertainment cabinet. Connect a TV, console, streaming player and media server through one router uplink.

Compact office desk. Add wired access for computers, printer, NAS or VoIP equipment that has its own power supply.

Router port expansion. Turn one available router LAN port into several local switched connections.

Bench or lab network. Create a simple isolated wired segment when a separate router or DHCP server provides the required addressing.

Setup and usability guidance

09 · Usability

  1. Place the switch on a stable, ventilated surface and confirm the supplied power adapter matches the local outlet.
  2. Connect the 5V power supply and check the Power LED.
  3. Connect a router LAN port or upstream switch to any RJ45 port using a known-good Ethernet cable.
  4. Connect each local wired device to another port. The corresponding Link/Act LED should illuminate.
  5. Check the negotiated link speed in the connected computer, router or device interface; the LED alone does not prove a 1Gbps link.
  6. If a port negotiates at 100Mbps, replace the cable and test the device directly before changing network settings.

Driver and operating-system guidance

10 · Software

The switch is a stand-alone Ethernet device and does not install an operating-system driver.

The connected computer or USB Ethernet adapter may still require its own network driver. That requirement belongs to the endpoint, not to this switch.

No mobile app, browser setup or firmware configuration is required for normal unmanaged switching.

IP addressing, DNS, parental controls, firewall rules and Wi-Fi settings remain functions of the router or other network equipment.

Driver discipline

Match this SKU, chipset, operating-system version and CPU architecture. A driver for a similar enclosure can be incompatible with the hardware inside.

What this product does

11 · scope

  • Adds five auto-negotiating 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet ports to an existing wired network.
  • Forwards local Ethernet traffic between connected devices using store-and-forward switching.
  • Works quietly without a cooling fan and provides a separate activity indicator for every port.
  • Supports ordinary mixed-speed Ethernet devices and Auto MDI/MDIX cabling.

What this product does not do

12 · Clear boundaries

  • It is not a router, modem, firewall, Wi-Fi access point or DHCP server.
  • It does not provide IEEE PoE or passive power over its RJ45 ports.
  • It does not offer managed VLANs, configurable QoS, port mirroring, link aggregation or a web console.
  • It cannot make a 100Mbps device, cable or internet plan operate at 1Gbps.
  • It does not isolate untrusted devices unless another router or managed security device provides that policy.

What to do

13 · Best practice

Recommended. Use Cat5e-or-better four-pair cables and verify the negotiated speed at the endpoint.

Recommended. Keep one clear uplink path to the router or upstream switch.

Recommended. Use the supplied, correctly rated 5V power equipment.

Recommended. Label cables when several similar devices share the switch.

Recommended. Keep the metal case uncovered and dry.

What not to do

14 · Common mistakes

Avoid. Do not connect two ports back into the same network and create a loop.

Avoid. Do not connect PoE-powered equipment expecting this switch to energise it.

Avoid. Do not feed passive voltage into an RJ45 port.

Avoid. Do not use a visibly damaged power adapter or Ethernet plug.

Avoid. Do not interpret a lit Link/Act LED as proof of internet access or Gigabit speed.

Warnings and limitations

15 · Read before use

Warning / limitation 1. Indoor information-technology use only; keep away from moisture, conductive debris and excessive heat.

Warning / limitation 2. Disconnect power before cleaning. Use a dry cloth and never spray liquid into the ports.

Warning / limitation 3. A mild warm enclosure can be normal under load; unplug the unit if there is odour, deformation, abnormal noise or repeated resets.

Warning / limitation 4. The supplied adapter's 5V/1A marking is its capacity; the switch's documented maximum input is lower. Do not substitute a supply with the wrong voltage or polarity.

Warning / limitation 5. Jumbo frames should remain at the network default unless every device along the intended path has been deliberately configured and tested.

Troubleshooting by symptom

16 · Diagnostics

Power LED is off. Reseat the DC plug and wall adapter, try a known working outlet and stop using the adapter if its cable is damaged.

Link LED is off. Reseat both RJ45 ends, try another port and known-good cable, then verify the endpoint network interface is enabled.

Link is only 100Mbps. Replace the cable with a four-pair Cat5e-or-better lead and check that both endpoints support Gigabit Ethernet.

Local link works but internet does not. Check the router uplink, DHCP lease, gateway and ISP status. The switch itself does not provide internet service.

Network becomes unstable after adding a cable. Remove the newest connection and check for an accidental loop between switch ports or parallel uplinks.

FAQs

Questions buyers ask.

What model does this page cover?

This page is only for UGREEN CM633, SKU 15641, the five-port unmanaged Gigabit switch.

What is the highest stated link speed?

Each RJ45 port negotiates up to 1Gbps. The 10Gbps figure is aggregate full-duplex switching capacity, not a 10Gbps port.

Does it need a driver?

No switch driver is installed. A connected computer or USB network adapter may need its own driver.

Which hosts or network devices are compatible?

It works with standard 10/100/1000Mbps Ethernet devices such as routers, PCs, TVs, consoles, NAS units and printers.

Will it make my internet faster?

No. It adds wired ports but cannot exceed the ISP plan, router uplink or slowest link in the path.

Does it support or supply PoE?

No. SKU 15641 supplies neither IEEE PoE nor passive power through its RJ45 ports.

What do its USB or power connections actually do?

No RJ45 port is permanently assigned as WAN or uplink; connect the router LAN cable to any one port.

What cable or radio path should I use?

Use a known-good Cat5e-or-better four-pair cable for Gigabit. Cable damage or incomplete terminations often force 100Mbps.

Is warmth normal?

A mildly warm aluminium case can be normal. Keep it uncovered and unplug it if heat, smell or resets become abnormal.

What should I check first if it does not work?

Check power, Link/Act LEDs, cables and negotiated speed first; then test the endpoint directly at the router.

What is included in the box?

The base package contains the switch, a regional 5V power adapter and product documentation.
