Features
What it does well.
Key features
Role. Each front RJ45 socket maps to a rear colour-coded IDC termination. The panel creates a managed cross-connect point between permanent cabling and short patch leads to a switch or other network equipment.
Compatibility boundary. A standard 19-inch rack/cabinet with 1U space, compatible Cat6 UTP permanent cable, suitable patch leads and T568A/B installation practice. Rack nuts and mounting method must match the actual rack rails.
Performance reality. Cat6 performance depends on correct pair placement, minimal untwist, cable construction, patch leads, installation quality and test results. The panel is passive and has no switching bandwidth of its own.
Important exclusion. This is not an Ethernet switch, router, PoE injector, unmanaged hub, shielded grounding panel, wall faceplate or substitute for rack cable management and channel certification.
Where it fits in the connection
The system rule: every stage must match. The lowest-rated, damaged or incorrectly terminated component can limit speed, reliability, shielding, PoE operation or serviceability.
Use scenarios
Scenario 1. A 24-run office or classroom structured-cabling cabinet.
Scenario 2. A home lab or equipment rack needing labelled permanent links.
Scenario 3. Separating fixed building cable from replaceable switch patch leads.
Scenario 4. Making adds, moves and fault isolation easier through numbered ports.
Compatibility and selection guide
Use when. A standard 19-inch rack/cabinet with 1U space, compatible Cat6 UTP permanent cable, suitable patch leads and T568A/B installation practice. Rack nuts and mounting method must match the actual rack rails.
Do not assume. not an Ethernet switch, router, PoE injector, unmanaged hub, shielded grounding panel, wall faceplate or substitute for rack cable management and channel certification. Before bulk purchase: trial the cable, module, plug or rack fit and complete one tested installation. Small physical differences can matter even within the same category name.
Setup and usability guidance
Work cleanly: dust, copper scraps and loose braid strands can create faults. Collect offcuts and inspect the finished area before energising connected equipment.
Step 1: Reserve one 1U position in a compatible 19-inch rack and plan cable approach, bend radius and strain relief.
Step 2: Label every permanent cable at both ends before termination.
Step 3: Route cables through the rear support, leave service slack and avoid tight ties or sharp bends.
Step 4: Choose T568A or T568B consistently and place conductors in the matching colour-coded IDC positions.
Step 5: Terminate with a suitable tool while keeping pair untwist minimal; trim safely and secure cables at the rear.
Step 6: Fit replaceable labels, mount the panel, test every port to the required standard and patch it to active equipment.
Compatible devices and systems
Network endpoints. Routers, switches, access points, computers, printers, smart televisions, cameras and other RJ45 network equipment only through a correctly built compatible link.
Structured cabling. Wall outlets, patch panels, permanent cable and patch leads must share a suitable category, shielding design and wiring scheme.
PoE equipment. Possible only within the boundary: The panel is passive. No explicit PoE class/current ceiling is for SKU 70423; PoE use requires a complete compliant copper channel, correct IDC terminations and thermal/bundle assessment.
Operating systems. No operating-system driver is required for this passive accessory or manual tool; active adapters and switches are separate products.
What this product does
Provides its documented function: Each front RJ45 socket maps to a rear colour-coded IDC termination. The panel creates a managed cross-connect point between permanent cabling and short patch leads to a switch or other network equipment.
Supports the stated compatibility class: A standard 19-inch rack/cabinet with 1U space, compatible Cat6 UTP permanent cable, suitable patch leads and T568A/B installation practice. Rack nuts and mounting method must match the actual rack rails.
Can form part of a serviceable labelled network: when installed with matched components and tested.
Keeps infrastructure modular: damaged or changed portions can be traced and replaced without rebuilding unrelated equipment.
Uses no software: this product is passive or manual and has no configuration app.
What this product does not do
It is not an Ethernet switch, router, PoE injector, unmanaged hub, shielded grounding panel, wall faceplate or substitute for rack cable management and channel certification.
It does not upgrade a lower-category cable or repair split pairs, poor conductor material, corrosion or bad device ports.
It does not guarantee PoE, bandwidth or error-free operation without a compliant complete link.
It does not remove the need for correct tools, installation practice, labelling and testing.
It should not be installed outdoors, in wet areas or beside mains wiring without a suitable compliant enclosure and qualified design.
What to do
Match. Match this SKU: use the title, construction and limits for 70423 rather than borrowing specifications from a similar family member.
Check. Check the complete path: confirm cable category, shielding, conductor construction, connector geometry, patch leads and endpoints.
Label. Label both ends: record room/port, wiring scheme and destination so later maintenance does not become guesswork.
Test. Test in stages: verify the cable or module before closing a wall plate or rack, then test again after final assembly.
Protect. Protect bend radius and strain relief: route cable gently and keep load away from contacts, IDC slots and device sockets.
What not to do
Do not force. Do not force parts: a keystone, plug, cable or tool that does not fit cleanly is probably the wrong geometry.
Do not miswire. Do not mix T568A and T568B accidentally: document the chosen scheme and check all eight conductors.
Do not over-untwist. Do not untwist pairs excessively: preserving pair geometry near termination matters to high-frequency performance.
Do not guess. Do not claim speed from appearance: clear housings, gold colour or a category marking do not replace complete-link testing.
Do not reuse damage. Do not use damaged parts: discard cracked housings, bent contacts, dull blades, loose shutters or failed crimp terminations.
Warnings and limitations
model limit: Cat6 performance depends on correct pair placement, minimal untwist, cable construction, patch leads, installation quality and test results. The panel is passive and has no switching bandwidth of its own.
Sharp tools and contacts: keep fingers clear of blades, IDC contacts, trimmed conductors and crimp dies. Wear appropriate eye protection during cutting and termination.
Indoor low-voltage scope: no outdoor ingress rating is established. Keep the product dry, clean and away from corrosive environments or excessive heat.
Category is system-wide: a Cat5e, Cat6 or Cat7 label on one part does not upgrade the remaining cable, patch leads, terminations or equipment.
Test before service: visual inspection is not enough. Verify conductor map and real link negotiation; professional installations may require certification testing.
Do not work on live mains: networking hardware is low voltage, but wall boxes and racks may be close to hazardous electrical circuits.
Troubleshooting checklist
No link. Confirm both active devices, patch leads and port selections. Then check conductor map, full insertion and the connector/cable fit.
Lower speed than expected. Verify negotiation settings and every component category. Excessive untwist, split pairs and unsuitable cable construction can pass continuity yet fail performance.
Intermittent link. Look for incomplete seating, weak strain relief, damaged latch, nicked conductor, IDC not fully closed or a crimp made with the wrong die.
PoE device restarts. Stop use and inspect conductor material, gauge, contact engagement, heat and the powered equipment budget. Do not continue with a hot or damaged termination.
Shield or noise concern. For shielded products, check end-to-end shield design and grounding practice. Mixing shielded and unshielded parts can defeat the intended system.
Port or label mismatch. Trace one cable at a time, compare labels at both ends and update records immediately after correction.
model check before ordering
Match SKU 70423, product type, port or die count, cable category/construction and package contents. Similar UGREEN networking accessories can look nearly identical while using different shielding, conductor fit, rack format or termination method.
