Reuse a DisplayPort-only office monitor with a laptop or desktop that has HDMI output.
HDMI Source to DisplayPort Display Active Adapter
Overview
UGREEN 40238 is an active, one-way converter for connecting an HDMI source—such as a computer, console, Blu-ray player or camera—to a monitor or projector that accepts DisplayPort. It combines an HDMI input lead with USB power and a female DisplayPort output. The specification supports up to 4K at 30 Hz or 1080p at 60 Hz and carries both video and compatible digital audio. A separate DisplayPort cable is required.

Signal direction cannot be reversed
This adapter accepts an HDMI source and feeds a DisplayPort monitor or projector. It will not connect a DisplayPort computer to an HDMI television. A separate male-to-male DisplayPort cable and a stable USB power source are required to complete the connection.

Key features
- Converts in the uncommon HDMI-source to DisplayPort-display direction.
- Supports up to 3840×2160 at 30 Hz or 1920×1080 at 60 Hz when source, cable and display agree.
- Carries compatible HDMI audio and video through to the DisplayPort display path.
- Driver-free active conversion for normal supported operating-system display modes.
- Attached 0.5 m HDMI lead and 0.5 m USB power lead.
- Works with duplicate/mirror or extend modes when the computer and operating system support them.
Use scenarios
Connect a compatible game console or Blu-ray player to a DisplayPort monitor.
View an HDMI camera feed on a DisplayPort-equipped screen.
Add a second DisplayPort screen to a computer whose available video output is HDMI.
Present slides on a DisplayPort projector from an HDMI-equipped source.

Setup and usability guidance
Switch off or sleep the source and display before making the first connection.
Connect the adapter’s HDMI plug to the HDMI output on the source device.
Connect a separate DisplayPort cable from the adapter’s female DP socket to the display’s DP input.
Connect the USB lead to a powered USB port or suitable 5 V USB supply; using power is recommended for reliable conversion.
Select DisplayPort on the monitor, then choose duplicate or extend mode and a supported resolution on the source.

Compatible devices and systems
The source must provide HDMI output; the receiving screen must provide DisplayPort input.
Suitable source categories include PCs, laptops, consoles, Blu-ray players and cameras with standard HDMI output.
A computer can use mirror or extend modes if its graphics hardware and operating system allow them.
DisplayPort cable quality and monitor capability must support the selected mode.

Real-world performance and planning
The successful mode is negotiated across the HDMI source, active converter, separate DisplayPort cable and receiving display. All four parts must support the selected resolution, refresh rate, colour format and protected-content requirements. For first setup, begin at 1080p / 60Hz, confirm a stable picture, then select 4K / 30Hz if every endpoint supports it.
USB on this assembly is power only. It does not send graphics or install a virtual display device. When a screen remains blank, check the one-way signal path, attach USB power, select the monitor's DisplayPort input, reseat the separate DP cable and restart the HDMI source before changing advanced picture settings.

What this product does
- Actively changes an HDMI signal into a DisplayPort-compatible output.
- Provides a practical connection where a passive HDMI-to-DP cable will not work.
- Supports a second display when the computer exposes a usable HDMI output.
- Can carry compatible audio to a DisplayPort monitor with speakers or audio output.
What this product does not do
- It does not convert DisplayPort source to HDMI display; the direction cannot be reversed.
- It does not raise a source beyond its native resolution, refresh rate, color format or protected-content capability.
- It is not a USB graphics adapter; USB supplies power and does not carry the picture.
- It does not include the required male-to-male DisplayPort cable.
- It is not specified for 4K at 60 Hz, 120 Hz gaming or variable-refresh-rate features.
What to do
- Use a short, standards-compliant DisplayPort cable and select a mode both devices explicitly support.
- Connect USB power before troubleshooting a blank or unstable picture.
- Set 1080p at 60 Hz first, then try 4K at 30 Hz after the link is stable.
- Check the source output and monitor input selection whenever the display reports no signal.
What not to do
- Do not connect a DisplayPort computer to an HDMI monitor with this product.
- Do not treat the USB lead as a video input or data connection.
- Do not force HDMI or DisplayPort connectors; inspect orientation and remove protective caps.
- Do not assume HDCP-protected media or every console mode will work unless both endpoint devices support the same requirements.
Check before buying
Source device must have HDMI output; the screen must have DisplayPort input.
Add a separate standards-compliant male-to-male DisplayPort cable.
Plan for 4K at 30Hz or 1080p at 60Hz—not 4K/60, high-refresh gaming or VRR.
Provide stable 5V USB power and confirm the display supports the chosen video and audio mode.
Warnings and limitations
- 4K is limited to 30 Hz; use 1080p for the listed 60 Hz mode. Actual choices depend on EDID negotiation between source and display.
- Connect the USB power lead for dependable active conversion, especially when the picture is blank or unstable.
- A separate DisplayPort cable is mandatory. Buying only this adapter will not complete the connection.
- Audio requires the source, converter path and DisplayPort display to support the same format; a monitor without speakers will not produce sound.
