This UGREEN Cat 8 cable (Model 80430) is a high-performance choice for anyone looking to eliminate network bottlenecks and "future-proof" their local infrastructure. Here is a breakdown of how it performs in a high-demand setup.
Performance & Throughput
Let’s be realistic: very few of us have the enterprise-grade hardware required to actually saturate a 40Gbps/2000MHz pipe. However, that’s not really why you buy this.
The standout feature is the raw speed capability. In real-world iPerf3 testing, this cable consistently maxes out the available bandwidth. For Mac-to-Mac transfers, achieving sustained 3Gbps speeds is seamless, proving it can easily handle 2.5GbE or 5GbE environments with massive overhead to spare. With a rated ceiling of 40Gbps and 2000MHz, you won't need to swap this out when 10GbE hardware becomes the standard.
Build Quality & Insulation
UGREEN has opted for a premium 'braided exterior' that is both flexible and resistant to kinking. Internally, the S/FTP (Shielded Foiled Twisted Pair) construction provides excellent interference insulation.
The shielding is particularly effective if you are routing this cable near power bricks, high-voltage lines, or inside dense rack setups where EMI (Electromagnetic Interference) often causes packet loss on lower-category cables.
Connector Reliability
The 'gold-plated RJ45 connectors' ensure a snug, corrosion-resistant fit. The "interface insulation" mentioned in the specs holds up well; the shielding extends all the way to the plug, which helps maintain a stable sync rate even during heavy 24/7 workloads like NAS backups or high-speed routing.
A Note on Length
At 1.5 Meters, this cable is on the shorter side. It is perfect for:
Connecting a laptop to a docking station.
Linking a NAS to a nearby switch.
Direct router-to-modem connections.
Warning: If your machine is on the floor and your router is on the desk, 1.5m might be a bit tight once you account for cable routing and corners. You might want to step up to the 3m or 6m version for a cleaner run.
Verdict:
Pros: Exceptional shielding, robust braided build, and verified iPerf3 performance.
Cons: Overkill for standard 1Gbps internet, but essential for high-speed internal LANs.
Bottom Line: If you are running high-throughput hardware or simply want to "set it and forget it" for the next decade of networking standards, this is one of the most reliable 1.5M cables on the market.
Excellent.
