UGREEN US184 USB-A to USB-C 5Gbps Cable, 0.5m, Black

Keep a short connection between your USB-A equipment and a USB-C device with the UGREEN US184 20881. This black 0.5m cable combines charging and data transfer, supporting a USB 3.0 connection of up to 5Gbps and charging current of up to 3A with compatible equipment. Its 50cm length suits a phone beside a power bank, a portable drive beside a laptop, or another close connection where a longer cable would leave spare loops on the desk. The cable has a USB-A male plug at one end and a reversible USB-C male plug at the other. Choose it for the ports you already have, then check the speed and charging capabilities of those devices.

Key features

Up to 5Gbps data transfer

The USB 3.0 connection supports moving photos, documents and other files between a compatible USB-A computer and USB-C device. Both ends of the setup need USB 3.x support to use the cable's maximum data rate.

Charging up to 3A

US184 supports compatible USB-A charging modes including QC3.0, AFC and FCP. Charging speed depends on the source and receiving device agreeing on a shared mode; the cable does not set the charging power by itself.

Compact 50cm length

A short cable helps keep nearby devices connected without a large coil. Measure the route between your ports and allow a gentle bend at each connector, especially when a phone is on a stand or inside a case.

Shielded copper construction

The US184 datasheet lists tin-plated copper conductors, multiple internal shielding and a 56kΩ pull-up resistor. The black PVC jacket and moulded connectors give this cable a practical finish for everyday charging and synchronisation.

A practical guide to choosing and using it

Choose the correct connection

Use the USB-A end with a computer, charger or power bank that has a matching USB-A socket. The USB-C end connects to the device being charged or accessed. A laptop with only USB-C sockets needs a different cable or an appropriate adapter.

Plan for the complete setup

A fast cable cannot increase the speed of a slower phone, drive or computer port. For file transfers, the device's storage and software also affect the result. For charging, check the charger's supported output and the device manufacturer's recommended charging method.

Where it fits

Portable charging

Connect a USB-C phone or compatible accessory to a nearby USB-A power bank, with less spare cable to organise in a pouch or on a table.

Desk data connection

Keep a compatible USB-C portable drive beside a USB-A laptop or desktop port for file access and backups, provided the port supplies sufficient power.

Everyday synchronisation

Move supported files between a computer and a USB-C phone or tablet, or connect compatible USB-C accessories that use a USB-A host.

Will it work with your setup?

  • USB-A computers, USB-A wall chargers, power banks and compatible vehicle ports, paired with USB-C devices that support the intended connection.
  • USB-C smartphones, tablets, storage devices and accessories within the host port's available power and the device's supported USB functions.
  • USB 2.0 hosts and devices can operate at their lower supported data rate. The cable itself does not require a separate driver.

Setup and everyday use

  1. Check that the source has a USB-A socket, the other device has USB-C, and 50cm covers the route without pulling on either plug.
  2. Insert the USB-A plug in the correct orientation and connect the reversible USB-C plug to the other device. Hold the connector housing when connecting or disconnecting.
  3. For file transfers, use a data-capable computer port. Unlock the phone or tablet and approve any trust prompt or file-transfer setting requested by its operating system.
  4. Test charging or a small file transfer before arranging the cable permanently. Eject a storage device through the computer's operating system before unplugging it.

Frequently asked questions

How long is UGREEN 20881, and is it the same as 20882?
SKU 20881 is the 0.5m, or 50cm, version of the US184 cable. SKU 20882 is the related 1m version. They share the same connection type and cable family, but the length is different. Choose 20881 when the devices sit close together and the complete route fits comfortably within 50cm.
Will I always get the full 5Gbps transfer speed?
No. 5Gbps is the maximum USB link rate, not a promised file-copy speed. The USB-A port, USB-C device, storage and software must all support the relevant performance. A USB 2.0 phone or computer port limits the connection to its own capability. Small files and slower storage can also reduce the observed speed.
How fast will this cable charge my phone?
The cable supports charging current up to 3A, but the actual rate is selected by the charger and phone. A compatible QC, AFC or FCP combination can use its shared charging mode. Battery level, temperature and phone usage also affect charging. The 3A rating does not mean every USB-A port will provide 3A.
Does it support USB-C Power Delivery or laptop charging?
It does not support USB-C Power Delivery or PPS because the source end is USB-A. A USB-C plug alone does not make a cable suitable for high-power laptop charging. If your laptop specifies a USB-C PD charger, use a suitable USB-C-to-USB-C cable with the required power rating and the recommended charger.
Can I use it with a USB-C iPhone, Android phone or tablet?
It can provide a physical USB-A-to-USB-C connection for devices that accept charging or data through that path. The available functions depend on the device. Unlock it and approve computer access when required. A phone with Lightning or Micro USB needs a different cable, and fast-charging modes remain specific to the phone and charger.
Can it connect a USB-C SSD or external drive to my computer?
Yes, where the drive supports a USB-A host connection and its power requirement fits the host port's output. The cable offers a 5Gbps-class data path, while the drive and computer determine the actual transfer rate. Use a direct suitable USB port when possible, and follow the drive manufacturer's guidance if extra power is required.
Will it work for Android Auto or wired CarPlay?
It can serve as a data cable when the vehicle has a compatible USB-A data port and the connected USB-C phone supports the vehicle's wired system. Compatibility depends on the phone and head unit. A charging-only vehicle socket will not work for these features, and the cable cannot add wireless connectivity to the vehicle.
Can it send video from my laptop or phone to a monitor?
This cable does not provide native USB-C video output such as DisplayPort Alt Mode, HDMI or Thunderbolt. It is intended for USB data and compatible charging through USB-A. For a monitor connection, identify the source's supported video output and choose the corresponding video cable or adapter for the monitor's input.
Why does my device charge but not appear on the computer?
First confirm that you are connected to a computer's data-capable USB-A port rather than a charger. Unlock the device, accept its access prompt and select file transfer where required. Some devices need their own software or drivers. Try a direct port without a hub to narrow down whether the problem is permissions, hardware or software.
What is included, and how should I look after the cable?
The package contains one black 0.5m US184 cable. Devices and chargers in the feature images illustrate possible uses and are not included. Keep a gentle bend near each plug, avoid trapping the cable under furniture, and unplug by holding the connector housing. Coil it loosely for storage and keep the connectors clean and dry.
